A Journey of Living from Glory to Glory

Christians, halloween, and the satanic kingdom

Oct post graphic

It’s once again time for the church to “come out from among them and be separate,” not that there has ever been, or ever will be a time when it isn’t supposed to. But halloween is upon us again and the season for increased dark-spiritual activity has arrived. It is an unfortunate fact that many Christians love to dabble in the satanic realm, especially on halloween. Most really don’t consider their dabbling as an encounter with the lord of darkness, but they partake willfully none-the-less. It’s a fascination, a draw, a weakness for the things that glorify satan (and in spite of my spell-checker insisting I’ve done wrong, I will never capitalize any of the names for satan—he in no way deserves such respect). So I want to start off by stating this very clearly: A Christian has absolutely no business participating in halloween (I ain’t capitalizing the name for the celebration either). Neither should they have “alternative” costume events, nor sponsor “safe” trick-or-treat activities at church.

So here’s the rub: halloween is an abomination to God. It glorifies witches, witchcraft, covens, genies, fairies, spells, black magic, sorcery, voodoo, divination, fortune telling, darkness, fear, spirits, spooks, demons, monsters, torture, bondage, blood, and death. All these are the marks of satan and his kingdom of death. Are any of these things likely to glorify God? I hope you answered “No!” Then who do they glorify? (OK, I’ve already spilled the beans, but play along with me anyway because the next few sentences are pretty awesome). Let me give you a hint; he’s a being of pure evil that hates God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Christians, all of mankind, and all righteousness. He kills people with tortuous ailments such as cancer, diabetes, and malaria. He inflicts people with all kinds of sickness, disease, poverty, strife, stress, depression, and anguish. He steals your joy, your peace, and your hope. I could go on and on here, but you already know his name. That’s right, satan, the father of lies, the enemy of God, the accuser of men, the lord of the flies (this is why I hate flies so much by the way).

Now you might be thinking that halloween is harmless and benign. After all, what harm can come from letting kids have a little fun and at the same time collect some goodies? Well besides glorifying satan, these events also invite demonic activity into your household. And that’s pretty bad. But even worse is this startling revelation: anything that glorifies satan repulses God. So a Christian has absolutely no business taking part in this dark celebration in any manner or form. To do so is puts them in a very dangerous place:

1 Corinthians 10:21 (KJV)
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils; and ye cannot be partakers of the Lords table, and the table of devils.

Quite simply, halloween is a festival of evil and is indeed the cup of devils. If you want to play around with the cup of devils, you cannot partake of the Lord’s Table. There, I said it (actually, Scripture said it); It’s just that simple.
God wants nothing to do with evil. If you’re participating in evil then He also wants nothing to do with you (yeah, you heard me right—Lord please give me some Scripture to backup what I just said! . . . Well hallelujah here it is):

2 Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.”

God didn’t provide these warnings to us nonchalantly and without great cause. He has clearly warned us throughout His Word about the prevalent operation of evil on this earth. Time and time again He shows us the dangerous, devastating effects of evil. And His instructions are very clear: stay away from all things evil or it will overtake and destroy you. Behind all evil is the operation and deployment demonic forces who advance and administer the devil’s primary role to “steal, to kill, and to destroy.” Yikes! (But not to fear, Jesus came to give life and life more abundantly).

The problem of having fellowship with the forces of darkness is that it greatly increases exposure to the satanic kingdom. And that greatly increases the veracity of your spiritual warfare. What makes this even more terrifying, is that at least 90% of Christians (in my own estimation) avoid the subject of satan and demons altogether, either out of ignorance or out of fear. Unfortunately ignorance and fear about this subject can be deadly and is often the reason for maladies and torments throughout the Christian community. These things are the pleasure of evil forces that love to afflict Christians as much, if not more, than they do the non-believing world.

I can assure you that evil spiritual forces are highly operative in this world afflicting billions of people, many of whom are Christians. A lot of Christians believe that if they ignore the subject or simply decide not to engage, there will be no warfare for them. I’m here to tell you right now that whether or not a Christian decides to engage in spiritual warfare will not keep them from being attacked by these otherworldly spiritual forces. Participation in events that glorify evil such as halloween are actually received by demons as worship, and they seize such opportunities as open invitations to invade the lives of the participants.

So why can’t Christians participate in some alternative party at their churches? Because such participation is still a compromise. It still gives honor and glory to the lord of darkness instead of Jesus Christ. halloween is actually a high holy day for satan’s croud—witches, satan worshippers, covens and the like. They consider this day a “black sabbath,” offering blood sacrifices upon the devil’s alter using dogs, cats, rats, chickens, goats, and even humans. Should a Christian also celebrate this day? Should they condone such a day of satanic celebration? Of course not! Look at what the Lord tells us about such abominations:

Deuteronomy 18:9-14
9 “When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.
13 You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.
14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.

Don’t be an abomination to the Lord. (That last sentence would make a great bumper sticker). Don’t be part of the devil’s kingdom of darkness. Don’t celebrate alongside those who are not heading in the same spiritual direction as you. Be separate; be a peculiar people; be holy as God is holy and stay away from worldly events that are entangled with the enchantment of evil beings.

The origin of halloween is commonly credited to Druid and Celtic occultic practices that were coopted by the Catholic church throughout the centuries. Looking at the history of these practices, we find many amazing similarities with today’s “harmless” halloween practices. For example, the jack-o-lanterns that we so gleefully carve into animated faces today, actually mirror the practice of the Druids who did the same thing to represent the faces of demons. These were used by the Druids to actually attract demons to their homes. There are many web sites and books that already do a great job of documenting the history of halloween, so I won’t go any deeper here. But I do want to point out that the halloween holiday that we so willy-nilly practice today has its roots firmly in the horrors of satanic and occultic practices. Demons that were associated with the practices of the Druids and Celts, are just as thrilled to continue their association with practitioners today.

The exposure of our children to the black arts and demonic rituals is luring them into satan’s grasp. There are always demonic influences at work when we willingly participate in something that is an abomination to God. So if you are allowing your children to go the route of glorifying satan instead of God, you have some potential deliverance issues to deal with. This is spiritual warfare. A Christian who does not engage in spiritual warfare is simply an ignorant sitting duck for destruction. So it is crucial that you understand and protect yourself with the knowledge of God’s Word in this area and proclaim your God-given authority and dominion over the demonic world. First and foremost in this battle is to avoid demonic abominations altogether.

deliverance

For those who have already participated in halloween events throughout the years, all is not lost. Jesus Christ has already defeated the devil and has given you the power and authority to do the same. He alone is the deliverer. Even if you’ve given demons permission to infiltrate your life, the way out for you is clear: deliverance through Jesus Christ. There are many good deliverance ministries that are accustomed to dealing with demonic influences caused by a person’s association with the occult. You can contact me using the feedback and private communication form on my Go Ahead, Ask! page and I will help you find a deliverance ministry near you.

Don’t be tricked by the seductive treat of halloween. Do not in any way bow or succumb to the pressures of the satanic agenda and walk into the jaws of destruction. Avoid everything, and I mean EVERYTHING associated with halloween. I exhort the church not to compromise with the demonic world and have alternative costume events and parties. Instead, educate your young people. Help them to be overcomers in the Name of Jesus Christ. When they are ridiculed for their stance for the Kingdom, teach them to pray for those who persecute them. If you desire to have an alternative event, have a truly Christian event—such as a night of praise and worship or intercessory prayer, praying for those still entangled in occult.

Come out from among them and be separate, put away profane things, and you will be gleefully received and protected by your heavenly Father. Amen
